Golf
Opened in 2002, Ridge Stone earned statewide recognition as Iowa’s 9-Hole Course of the Year in 2008. Designed by architect Mark Kerr, this links-style course features practice greens and a full driving range, offering a distinctive and memorable golfing experience.
Ridge Stone’s layout includes several unique features that reflect both its design philosophy and local history. Hole 4 pays tribute to the former Smith Brick & Tile plant, once a landmark of the Sheffield community, allowing golfers to play through the preserved remains as they approach the green. Hole 7, the course’s signature hole, presents a memorable challenge with Bailey’s Creek lining the left side and a pond guarding the right.
The course is designed to evoke British Open-style fairways paired with Augusta-inspired greens. Rolling fairways are framed by tall fescue, with visible striping that fades naturally into the rough. The expansive greens are fast, heavily contoured, and surrounded by well-groomed collars. The entire course is fully irrigated, with sprinkler heads placed at least every 80 feet to maintain exceptional playing conditions.
Ridge Stone plays from 2,437 to 3,374 yards for a par of 36 and offers four sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. As a public course, Ridge Stone proudly wlecomes both members and non-members to enjoy everything it has to offer.
